Tata-Cummins has awarded EuroMaint Industry with an order for two robotic IPV stations for its engine assembly plant in Jamshedpur, India.
Tata-Cummins is the joint venture between India’s leading automotive manufacturer Tata and US-based engine manufacturer Cummins. The IPV test equipment will be integrated into the 4 & 6 cylinder diesel engine assembly line at their plant in Jamshedpur and is scheduled for delivery in May 2009.
IPV (In-Process Verification) is a method of product testing that is built right into the manufacturing process. Components and sub-assemblies are tested at the point of manufacture, not at the end of the line, where problems can be masked and repair difficult. By testing “In-Process”, immediate feedback is given to problems in the process. Defects can be traced to their root cause and problems can be corrected at the source.
- These IPV stations will ensure that Tata-Cummins will meet their quality and performance goals including power and exhaust emissions specifications which are pivotal for meeting Euro III & IV emissions requirements, says Phil Davies, V.P. & General Manager of EuroMaint Industry Inc.
The technology used for IPV was acquired by EuroMaint Industry from US-based Veri-Tek in 2007. EuroMaint Industry has, until now, mainly targeted engine assembly processes within the automotive industry.
- Our IPV-solutions combine production streamlining excellence with state of the art technology to ensure the quality and efficiency of manufacturing processes. We have attracted great interest for our IPV solutions globally, says Nicklas Falk, President of EuroMaint Industry.
