EuroMaint Rail refurbishes converters for the Swedish Rail Administration

EuroMaint Rail has signed an agreement with the Swedish Rail Administration (Banverket) for the refurbishment of 21 type Q48/Q49 converters.

The voltage converters are to be fitted with new brushless exciters that EuroMaint Rail has been commissioned to produce. With the new exciters, contamination of the converter is significantly reduced, costs for supervision and maintenance are lowered and the lifetime is extended.

"The commission from the Swedish Rail Administration is strategically very important for us. It involves replacing the old technology and contributing to the development of the Swedish Rail Administration's converters.  We already have experience of installation and maintenance, but now we are getting involved earlier in the process and are also being given the opportunity to manufacture brushless exciters for the converters," says Mats Önner, CEO of EuroMaint Rail.

The converters, which convert 50 Hz voltage into 16 2/3 Hz feed for the railway, are being dismantled and refurbished at EuroMaint Rail's component workshop in Åmål. The commission will begin in the autumn of 2009 and will continue for 4-5 years.
