EuroMaint Rail withdraws redundancy notices in Malmö

Redundancy notices issued to 91 employees at EuroMaint Rail’s refurbishment workshop in Malmö are to be fully withdrawn, as the company now believes that the order book is showing signs of recovery.

EuroMaint Rail informed the employees at its refurbishment workshop in Malmö of a planned re-organisation in December. This involved all 91 employees being given redundancy notices.

“The decision to re-organise activities in Malmö was partially taken against the background of an expected weak order book for refurbishment work within EuroMaint Rail. The company now believes that the volume of work will pick up, which means that the planned organisational change is no longer necessary,” comments Mats Önner, EuroMaint Rail’s CEO.

The redundancy notices are being withdrawn as EuroMaint Rail believes that the volume of work will pick up in the immediate future, which means that it is no longer necessary to implement the planned organisational change.

“I am very pleased to be able to inform our employees of this today,” says Sten Nilsson, Business Area Manager for refurbishments at EuroMaint Rail.

For the employees, today’s decision means that the redundancy notices will be fully withdrawn. It is currently too early to say whether or not the volume of orders the company expects to receive will be sufficient to safeguard all the posts.

“The amount and type of work within refurbishment activities vary over time. The ability to manage the level of staffing is an important requirement for conducting this type of activity with profitability. If volumes or the need for certain expertise changes in future, this will mean that staffing will have to be adapted,” concludes Sten.
